Learning in the 21st Century
Learning in the 21st century has changed drastically from the stereotypical views of that have been focused on throughout schools in the past. 21st century learners are engaging with technology as a part of their every day lives, so why can't we as learning managers incorporate technology learning activities into the classroom? We, as learning managers, must be able to engage students in their learning by connecting their learning to their previous experiences or knowledge. Prensky's suggested that we must step us as learning managers and utilise technology as a learning tool to engage students. We need to continue building on what they already know in a challenging, interesting, relating and meaningful way. As Prensky puts is "Engage me or Enrage me."

The nature of today's learners has changed. Passing out boring old worksheets and reading straight from textbooks is becoming a thing of the past. However, we need to remember that although we are living in a technology driven society, we need to ensure that our students are still learning the basic fine motor skills needed. This is why it is important to get to know each of your learners and their learning styles. If we know our students learning styles then we are able to teach in a diverse way that engages every student in the class.
As I said earlier, we need to build on our students past knowledges, skills and experiences in order to ensure a succesful learning outcome. Through the use of ICT in the classroom, we are providing our students with means to learn creatively. We are providing them with instant and up to date knowledge at their fingertips. We're connecting their learning to their every day lives and in turn, allowing our students to succeed.
21st Century Learners have more knowledge and skills then they are given credit for. So what type of learning manager will you be? Will you "engage or enrage" your students?
